Planning

Our first media production idea

Our first idea for our media production was about a policeman/detective who spent all his time working and no time with his family and friends. The first sequence would include the detective eating his breakfast when his wife comes rushing down the stairs holding onto the hand of the child and reaching towards the door handle. The detective would say 'where are you going?' Which is answered back with abuse from his wife saying how he never spends any time with her or the child, which gives the audience the impression that his work is more important than his family . The mother and child then leave the house and they re shown getting into a car and driving off. the shot then cuts to the detective in an interview room with a suspected criminal that has just been arrested. The criminal doesn't answer any of the questions the detective asks the criminal, and the detective starts to get angry, shouting and swearing and getting angry with the criminal which connotes that his work is stressful and he is a short tempered character. The last shot is of the detective about to attack the suspected criminal failing to control his frustration, then the titles appears. Myself and the group decided not to do this idea as the genre was something we were not particularly interested in and we didn't know as much about it. the film would also include too many swear words which would have been needed in this film opening to show the anger and frustration of the detective. But we all preferred the second idea much more and it appealed to the group more.

Treatment for ‘Kill Confirmed’
The first shot of our film opening will be, of the Hit man played by Joe Chapman hiding across the
road from a house. Then a point of view shot through the binoculars will be used where Joe will use them to look through the window of the house. As the hit man looks through the binoculars he will see Ryan Bell who is the boss of an unknown company/ business. This frame then freezes and the actors name Ryan Bell will appear at the bottom of the screen. Then the shot continues to a close up shot of Joe as he puts the binoculars down at the side of him. After this the shot cuts to a close up of a BMW car pulling up outside of the house where shortly after Dan Brown is seen exiting the car, this will be shown with a medium/ close up shot. The medium shot then freezes and the name of Dan Brown appears at the bottom of the screen. This then cuts to a long shot of Dan walking towards and opening the door. Once Dan has closed the door there is a point of view shot of Joe crossing the road which cuts to a long shot showing Joe opening the back gate of the house. A tracking shot of Joe as he is sneaking down the ally at the side of the house. This shot then cuts to a medium shot of Dan saying to Ryan ‘Have you got it then’. The same tracking shot is used as Joe enters the kitchen via the back door, which is left open .As the shot then shows Joe crouching behind a cupboard, as Dan is seen exiting the house. Shortly after this a point of view shot of Joe sneaks into the front room where the business had took place. He then aims his gun at Ryan and proceeds to shoot him. This then cuts to Joe picking up his phone using a close up shot, which cuts into a match on action shot of him dialling the number and waiting for someone to respond. Joe then says ‘Kill Confirmed’ which is the name of the Film. This then leads to the title of ‘Kill Confirmed’ coming on to the screen.

Target Audience -  our group has decided to make a film based on a genre we all enjoy watching and keeps us interested, we will aim our film towards adults and teenagers over the age of 15 as violence has to be taken into consideration and the sub genre Action/Thriller has been found very intellectually demanding in some cases. Our film would appeal to teenagers more as there is a lot of action involved with weapons like the gun from our opening sequence, This is different from a crime/thriller for example as the audience would have to mentally engage with the film in order to understand it therefore this genre would appeal to an older audience. The adult audience for our thriller film will probably enjoy the thriller aspect more as they can focus on the story rather than the action part.

Action - The beginning of our film contains a lot of action, one of the opening scenes shows the protagonist with a gun which connotes that the film will contain combat and violence which again may appeal to the slightly younger target audience more. Fast paced or suspenseful music can also help to build up the scene. Our film is related to a hit man story so we will be trying to get music similar to James Bond for example in order to create a good atmosphere for the audience and to make it seem action packed.

Thriller - Thriller films are designed to keep the audience interested and always on edge , wondering what might happen next. The protagonist in our case tends to find him/herself in a difficult situation or scenario which is often dangerous. This tends to set the story of the protagonist or lead the audience to believe something about him/her before a twist entails. At the beginning of a thriller film the 'Bad guy' is often shown as well to show that conflict will end up taking place between the character and the protagonist.

Shooting schedule

We will be filming within the February half term (16th to the 20th), this is to ensure that we have a full day to film. This means that we can change our filming day depending on different circumstances, for example; weather and illness etc. Ideally we will be hoping to film on a sunny day so that as it will make it easier. Filming on the same day will also ensure that there is small change in weather in our production.

We will be filming in the order of our storyboard as it will not be easier or less time consuming to film in a different order.

On the day of filming we will be expecting our actors; Joe, Ryan and Dan to be wearing suitable clothing for the production.

We shall use one of our own cameras or one of the media departments’ camera.
